ORLANDO MAGIC MILITARY APPRECATION GAME THIS FRIDAY NIGHT – PLEASE READ ENTIRE NOTE BEFORE ENTERING DRAWING.
Your Greater Jacksonville USO has received a limited number of FREE tickets for this Friday night’s game between the Orlando Magic vs. Cleveland Cavaliers. These tickets are for Active duty service members and each member can receive a maximum of 2 tickets (one for member and one for family member). FREE Luxury Coach bus transportation, box lunch and drinks will be provided courtesy of MWR and buses will leave NAS JAX Commissary parking lot at 1500. Due to limited number of tickets available, if you would like to go, please send your name, rank/rate, duty station, reliable phone contact number and whether you will or will not wear your uniform to: drawing@usojax.com Why are we asking if you will or will not wear your uniform? Because this is Magic’s Military Appreciation Game, the quality of ticket is better and you may be selected for in game recognition. Drawing closes at 1600 on Wednesday and we will notify the winners. ALL personnel/guests MUST be available to meet the buses at 1430 in the NAS JAX Commissary Parking Lot and must ride the bus to/from Orlando to receive a ticket.

THRASHER-HORNE CENTER FOR THE ARTS TICKETS
The Thrasher-Horne Center for the Arts has graciously donated tickets to the USO for the production “Damn Yankees” on Saturday, February 4th at 7:30pm. If you are interested in these FREE tickets please visit either the NAS or Mayport USO Centers. This show is a classic American musical about a 1950s middle-aged baseball fanatic who trades his sole to the Devil for a chance to lead his favorite team in the pennant race against the New York Yankees only to realize the true worth of the life he’s left behind.

VITA MILITARY TAX HELP
Big change this year is that they do not do your taxes for you. It is a self assist program now. This year the Navy is providing a “self-service” Tax Resource Center. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) center is equipped with computer stations where customers prepare their own tax returns using free online programs with the assistance of volunteers. The recommended program for use by the U.S. Navy is Military OneSource’s H&R Block at Home. Unlike previous years no electronic filing will be done on behalf of customers.
Who is eligible to use the Tax Resource Center?
• All active-duty service members and their dependents
• All retirees and their dependents
• Reservists on active duty for more than 30 days
• Reservists within 30 days of demobilization
• And reservists involved in pre-mobilization
What to bring to the Tax Resource Center:
• All 2011 W-2’s and 1099’s
• Copies of social security cards for taxpayers and dependents
• Taxpayer(s) military ID cards
• Bank account numbers and routing numbers
• Any other tax records including copies of 2010 tax returns if available

2012 SWEETHEARTS REGATTA
Do you like to sail?? It is time again for the 4th Annual Sweethearts Regatta. Join us Saturday, February 18TH, at the NAS Jax Yacht Club (adjacent to the base marina). This great event will include a sail boat race, food, and socializing. What if you don’t sail?....so…..bring out a blanket and, hopefully, enjoy the weather and watch the races….it’s a fun and exciting way to enjoy a nice leisurely day. If you do love to sail….It is a great time to get that sail boat out and dusted off. Best of all the race proceeds help the Greater Jacksonville USO.
2012 MOE’S SOUTHWEST GRILL LACROSSE CLASSIC
The City of Jacksonville and Jacksonville University Athletics presents the 2012 Moe’s Southwest Grill Lacrosse Classic! Come out to Everbank Field on Sunday, February 19. You can watch Ohio State take on Denver at 1:30pm and Navy vs. JU at 4 pm. Tickets are available at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena Box Office, all Ticketmaster outlets or online at www.ticketmaster.com.

2012 BIRDIES FOR CHARITY PROGRAM
Your Greater Jax Area USO is once again pleased to be participating in the 2012 PLAYERS Championship Birdies for Charity program. This unique, community-based fundraising initiative is held in conjunction with THE PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass, May 7-13, 2012. If you visit www.birdiesforcharity.playerschampionship.com, you will have the opportunity to make a donation to Greater Jax Area USO AND to become eligible to win a fabulous grand prize. Upon making your donation, you will be asked to guess the total number of birdies that will be made during the competition rounds of the tournament. The individual who guesses the exact number of birdies made (or closet thereto) at the 2012 PLAYERS will win $5,000. In addition, the charity that the individual supports with their entry, will receive an additional $5,000 bonus. In the event of a tie, a tie-breaker question will be used to determine the winner. Deadline for all entries is Wednesday, May 9.

1st ANNUAL USO CHILI COOK-OFF
The Fleet Reserve Association on Collins Road along with the Chili Appreciation Society International (CASI) will host the 1st Annual USO Chili Cook-off on March 10, 2012. Set up is at 6 am, cooks meeting/registration at 8 am, open turn in at 1 pm, peoples choice tasting from Noon to 3 pm, showmanship judging from noon til 2 pm, ending with awards at 4:00pm.
FLEET RESERVE #91 POKER RUN
The Fleet Reserve on Collins Road will host its 6th Annual Poker Run for the USO Saturday April 1st, 2012. Registration from 11 am to 1 pm. Last bike in by 5 pm. Registration is $10.00 with a $200.00 guaranteed winner take all! There are lots of door prizes, 50/50 raffle, food and live entertainment by “Shell Game” starting at 5:30pm.
