ADVENTURE LANDING NIGHT- WRISTBANDS ON SALE NOW
Wristbands for the annual USO Military Appreciation Night at Adventure Landing (Jacksonville Beach) are on sale at the NAS JAX and MAYPORT USO Offices and the Kings Bay ITT Office. The annual USO Military Appreciation Night at Adventure Landing (Jacksonville Beach) will be held on Wednesday, May 28TH from 6:00-11:00pm. WRISTBANDS ARE $3.00 EACH/CASH ONLY, AND ARE OPEN TO ACTIVE DUTY AND DEPENDENTS ONLY (NATIONAL GUARD AND RESERVISTS ON ACTIVE ORDERS ARE ELLIGIBLE). This event will sell out – please do not wait to buy your $3.00 wristbands.
NS MAYPORT CSADD COLOR RUN - APRIL 23RD
The NAVSTA MAYPORT Chapter of Coalition of Sailors Against Destructive Decisions (CSADD) will be hosting a 5K run/walk color run onApril 23. Please bring eye protection (i.e. goggles). The run is FREE of charge and is in support of Sexual Assault Awareness. Sign up starts at 10:00AM and the run starts at 11:00AM. The run begins at the MWR Fitness Center at Naval Station Mayport. MAYPORT USO NO DOUGH DINNER - APRIL 28TH
Monday, April 28th from 5:00PM-7:00PM, the Mayport USO Center will host a “No Dough Dinner”. This is free for Active Duty Service Members and their immediate families. The wonderful staff and volunteers will serve sloppy jo sandwiches, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, salad, and dessert. THANK YOU TO OCEANSIDE ROTARY CLUB FOR SPONSORING THIS “NO DOUGH DINNER”.
ACTIVE DUTY TRADING POST- NOW OPEN
There is a new thrift store open at 1249 Blanding Blvd. in Orange Park. Active Duty Trading Post offers a 10% discount to ALL active duty military, veterans, police, and firefighters on all purchases. Bring in a copy of the flyer to receive $5 off any purchase of $20 or more. See attachment for more information.
JACKSONVILLE SUNS 2014 BASEBALL SEASON - FREE COMMAND BLOCKS
Once again, the Jacksonville Suns AA Baseball Organization (Florida Marlins Affiliate) has teamed with your Greater Jacksonville Area USO for the 2014 season. With the support of BOEING, we have purchased 18 tickets (1st Base Side, Lower Level) for each home game during this year’s 70-game season. The intent of these free tickets is for use as a command social, evenly spread out throughout all ranks, with the hope of fostering unity and morale. See attached schedule and below procedures for submitting acommand/unit “Block Request” for a particular game.
Procedures for requesting a Game Day Block of 18 tickets:
Requests for a command/unit block may be submitted via email to email@example.com (NAS JAX) firstname.lastname@example.org (Mayport) by CO/OIC, XO and CMC/SEA only. In the event a command/unit is on an extended deployment overseas (3 months or longer) a Command Ombudsman or FRG President may submit a block request for a spouse social. With each block request, please provide 2 dates for a game your group would like to see. We will review block reservations to ensure another unit/command has not already reserved that particular date. If there are any conflicts, Greater Jacksonville Area USO will contact the command/unit POC to propose alternate date(s).
Information required on your email Block Request: Requestor (rank/name, command/unit spelled out), military installation (Kings Bay, Mayport, etc.), primary and alternate game date(s) requested, Command/Spouse Group Point of Contact, phone/email info. Greater Jacksonville Area USO will notify commands/units soonest for planning purposes, but no later than two weeks prior to the game.
- Can anyone request these tickets?
- NO only the CO/OIC, XO and CMC/SEA only by email email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org to request command blocks. These are not for individuals, only for commands.
- Can a command request only a few of the tickets?
- NO there are 18 tickets for each game that are handed out to the command that requested the tickets. You must take all 18 tickets.
- How far in advance can we request a game?
- As soon as possible. We are receiving requests daily so the sooner you can get your request in the better.
- Is there a cost for these tickets?
- NO they are FREE for commands; we are working hard for you!
NAS JACKSONVILLE NO DOUGH DINNER - APRIL 30TH
Join us for the first NAS Jacksonville No Dough Dinner. On Wednesday, April 30th from 5:00PM-7:00PM at Fleet Reserve #91 on Collins Road. The staff and volunteers will serve spaghetti and meat sauce, garlic bread, salad and dessert. 2014 PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIPS BIRDIES FOR CHARITY
Your Greater Jacksonville Area USO is pleased to be participating in the 2014 PLAYERS Championship Birdies for Charity program. This unique community-based fundraising initiative is held in conjunction with THE PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass, May 5-11, 2014.We encourage you to visit www.birdiesforcharity.playerschampionship.com, where you will have the opportunity to make a donation to your Greater Jacksonville Area USO AND to become eligible to win a fabulous grand prize! Upon making your donation, you will be asked to guess the total number of birdies that will be made during the competition rounds of the tournament. The individual who guesses the exact number of birdies made (or closet thereto) at the 2014 PLAYERS will win $5,000. In addition, the charity that the individual supports with their entry, will receive an additional $5,000 bonus. In the event of a tie, a tie-breaker question will be used to determine the winner. Deadline for all entries is Wednesday, May 7. COMPLIMENTARY PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP TICKETS
The PGA TOUR offers complimentary tickets for THE PLAYERS to career Military (Active Duty, Reserve, Military Retirees --those with official “retired” status from the military), and their Dependents. Go http://www.pgatour.com/theplayers and click on the "Tickets and Parking" link to find the Military Ticket information. Follow the steps to verify your military service and to get your voucher for complimentary tickets. A $1.00 processing fee applies. Present your voucher and your military ID at the Military Ticket window at the tournament entrance to receive your complimentary tickets.
Discounted Admission for Veterans
Veterans (Non-career Military personnel who are not Military Retirees, Active Duty, Reserves, or Spouses) will be offered the opportunity to purchase up to 2 discounted tickets to THE PLAYERS per day ($15.00 per day Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and $25.00 per dayThursday-Sunday). Go to http://www.pgatour.com/theplayersand click on the "Tickets and Parking" link to find the Military Ticket information. Follow the steps to verify your military service and to get your voucher for discounted tickets. A $1.00 processing fee applies. Present your voucher and an ID which matches the name on your voucher at the Military Ticket window at the tournament entrance to purchase discounted tickets.
NOTE Regarding Verifying Military Status. If you are not immediately verified for the voucher then you will be asked to upload official documentation confirming your Military Status. For veterans, any government issued document that confirms veteran status is acceptable. Please note that if you served in the Military before 1985 that you will most likely not be immediately verified, and you will be required to upload a form of documentation to be verified. Data before 1985 is simply not available digitally from the government , so a document from you is required. When uploading documentation, please block any sensitive or confidential information. After uploading documentation you will receive an email with instructions detailing how to access your ticket voucher. Parking. Tournament parking is located off of CR-210. The tournament is closed on Monday. Parking is free for everyone on Tuesday andWednesday. IF YOU HAVE 4 OR MORE PEOPLE IN YOUR CAR, PARKING IS FREE EVERY DAY. You must have a pre-printed parking pass in your window, along with 4 or more people. Go to http://www/pgatour.com/theplayersand click on the "Tickets and Parking" link to locate and print the Free 4 or More Parking pass. For all others, parking passes must be purchased in advance for Thursdaythrough Sunday. There will be no on-site parking sales this year. Parking passes can be purchased online at http://www.pgatour.com/theplayersor at the Will Call location on A-1-A .
USO WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT- APRIL-MAY
As a way of showing our gratitude to our men and women in uniform, the USO invites the American people to join us in attempting to set a Guinness World Record for the “most signatures on a flag”. Now until May 30th, people can add their digital signature to the Every Moment Counts flag online by visiting USOmoments.org or in person at various USO events. Together, let’s show our commitment to our troops and their families.

Harris Teeter, 4800 First Coast Highway, Fernandina Beach will be holding a donation card campaign from May 1 - May 31, 2014 giving customers the opportunity to donate $1.00, $3.00, or $5.00 to their Greater Jacksonville Area USO by way of a tear sheet at the cash register. Funds raised will help your Greater Jacksonville Area USO continue our support of our area military and families. This is the third year in a row Harris Teeter has supported our troops in this way and we hope to make 2014 an even greater success!
